Christine Chapman calls for urgent fire action

Christine Chapman AM has issued an urgent call for the Welsh Assembly Government to look at the safety of fire and rescue crews. (8th July)
Mrs Chapman revealed there have been 24 attacks on firefighters in South Wales since January, and referred to the most recent incident, where a pellet missed a firefighter’s eye by less than an inch as his crew was returning from tackling a blaze in the Cynon Valley.

Mrs Chapman said; “I would be grateful for a statement on this issue. It would be useful, given that these men and women risk their lives daily”.

The Cynon Valley AM also called for a statement from the Minister for Social Justice and Local Government on the Government’s response to the number of fires in Wales. Mrs Chapman referred to a number of disturbing incidents that had recently taken place within her constituency.

“Ynysboeth Infant School was destroyed by fire two weeks ago. That has been devastating for the children, staff and the community. In addition, there have been a number of forest blazes in my area. I know that this is an experience shared by other Members” added the AM.
