The Community Facilities and Activities Programme funding will provide fully equipped play area for use by the community, including a Multi Use Games Area, skate board ramp, toddlers area, seating and lighting.

Cynon Valley AM Christine Chapman has welcomed the news saying :

“This is great news and I’m delighted that the Bryncynon Revival Strategy has been successful in its application for this funding. It will help them to carry on their good work in our communities.”

“The project is one of 46 across Wales to benefit from the latest round of the Welsh Assembly Government’s popular Community Facilities and Activities Programme. In total, £7 million is being invested in these 46 projects over three financial years.

“The programme is not just about buildings. It’s about people, regenerating our towns and villages and restoring a sense of community spirit.”

Michelle Lenton -Johnson, Communities First Coordinator for Bryncynon said :

“We are delighted to have received almost £200,000 funding from CFAP to refurbish and extend the local play area in Bryncynon. Securing funding for this project has been a priority for the strategy and local community for many years.

“This funding will enable us to create a central focal point at the heart of the community, providing a much needed facility not only for this generation but for generations to come.”

NOTES :
• The Community Facilities and Activities Programme is a grant scheme operated by the Welsh Assembly Government to help community or voluntary organisations provide facilities or carry out activities which will promote the regeneration of communities.
• For further details about the scheme, please visit : http : //wales.gov.uk/topics/housingandcommunity/grants/cfap
• The development of the scheme in Bryncynon has been driven entirely by local needs as has the design. During the summer of 2009, Healthy Living staff consulted with over 400 children and young people and their wishes formed the basis of talks with RCT CBC regarding the design of the new area. The re-development plan is extensive and will provide a new play area, floodlit kick about area, skate park and environmental improvements.
