AM APPOINTED NEW CHAIR OF ASSEMBLY PETITIONS COMMITTEE
Cynon Valley AM Christine Chapman has been appointed as the new Chair of the National Assembly for Wales´Petitions Committee. (21st January 2010)
The Petitions Committee provides people from across Wales, with the opportunity to suggest changes to Welsh Government policy or suggest new legislation through submitting a petition.
Commenting on her appointment, Christine Chapman said :
“I am delighted to be appointed as the new Chair to such an influential committee. It is another way for people to tell their elected representatives about the issues which they believe need addressing.
“I know from constituents who have submitted their own petitions to the Assembly that they found the Committee to be of value to their particular cause.
“As the new Chair, I am keen to encourage contributions to this process from a cross section of people from across Wales.”

• The Petitions Committee was established following the National Assembly Election in 2007.
• It met for the first time in July 2007 and has looked at almost 300 petitions since then.
